6 Fun St.Patrick's Day Activities Kids Will Love

Good Afternoon guys

I hope you are all having a great start to the week!

In today's blog, we're going to be talking about all things St.Patrick's Day. We are going to be providing some fantastic activities to help you celebrate St.Patrick's Day with the children.

St.Patrick's Day is one of the most celebrated events on the calendar - not just for the Irish. It is celebrated by millions of people around the world.

Who is St.Patrick and why it is celebrated?

Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and is known for taking Christianity to Ireland. Saint Patrick was born in Wales and at just 16 years old. He was taken to Ireland as a slave, but managed to escape after six years, following a message from god. Patrick descended on France, where he became a priest, before returning to Ireland sometime later. Upon his return, he managed to covert much of the Irish population to Christianity. He died in Saul, Downpatrick, Ireland on 17th March, 461 A.D and each year millions come together to celebrate the legends life (also known as St.Patrick's Day).

There is more to just St.Patrick's Day than just corned beef and green beer. It is a great even for loved ones to come together and have some fun (Irish or not). There are some many fun activities to get your little ones involved.

Take them to a Baby Sensory Class

Young children may enjoy sensory activities where they can become familiar with the Shamrock shape and play with colours of the rainbow.

Make Irish-Themed Crafts

Of all St.Patrick's Day activities children will love, getting creative with crafts is not one to be overlooked. Stock up on craft suppliers like pipe cleaners in different colours, cotton balls, leprechaun gold for a pot of gold craft. Then get creative with your little one. You can make St.Patrick's Day decorations such as the Shamrock, four-leaf clover, pots of gold, leprechauns and rainbows. Such crafts are a great way for your little one to develop key motor skills but the best part is how much fun you will have. You can find some great Irish inspiration on Pinterest or here are a few activities to get you started:

Include games like hot potato pr 'Potato Hunt' (like an Easter egg hunt but with potatoes).  Why not  create your own 'Pot of Gold' scavenger hunt? Where you can win a pot of gold chocolate coins for the winner. You may even want to hide them at the end of a rainbow (you can find Rainbow designs on Pinterest).

Go to a Parade

St.Patrick's Day parades are pure fun. Check event listings in you area to see what it is available. Dress in your best St.Patrick's Day attire and get ready to see some amazing bag pipers, Irish step dancers and fire engines decorated for the special day. Many parades even include fun activities for the kids to keep them interested and engaged. This is one of the best ways to make St.Patrick's Day for kids a memorable one.

Eat Irish Foods and Green Treats

Popular Irish dishes include lamb or beef stews, soda bread and off course boiled potatoes. Although corned beef and cabbage is the most popular St.Patrick's Day dinner. If you are hosting a dinner/party these are the most favourite dishes that your guests will appreciate. If you cannot think of anything for the kids why not dye some of their favourite treats green with food colouring? e.g. rice krispies, buns, cakes and milkshakes.
